  • Claire Menary reviews the Sleepy Cow Body Treatment

    claire

Just because it's (finally) time to start bundling up in cosy coats and knits, it doesn't mean neglecting what's underneath. In fact, before the party season swings around, this is the perfect moment to treat post-summer skin to a little TLC while also giving your mind a chance to unwind at the same time. We sent blogger and photographer Claire Menary to try our Sleepy Cow Body Treatment at Cowshed Primrose Hill. Here's what she thought.

'It’s coming up to that time of year when hibernation is looking pretty attractive isn’t it? The Danish concept of ‘Hygge’ has never made more sense to me. It’s time to wrap up, get cosy and wear layer after layer which often means that all those summer body rituals - all the preening and buffing - go out the window. It’s also the time that we start gearing up to one of the busiest and most stressful times of the year as people slowly wake up to the realisation that the year is almost over and - shhh, let’s say it quietly - Christmas is around the corner. Cue panic stations.

Before you start getting caught up in silly season (it’ll be here before you know it - eek!), how about a thought for what you’re about to put your poor body through? With that in mind, perhaps it’s time for a treat?

Nothing says a de-stress pamper quite like the Sleepy Cow Body Treatment; which is exactly what the lovely team at Cowshed booked me in to experience at their cosy outpost in Primrose Hill. On the day of my visit, I was sleep deprived, stressed out to the max and had the beginnings of an autumnal cold coming on so if that wasn’t a good starting point to test out the treatment’s primary aims of relieving tension and quietening the mind then I don’t know what is!

As with all Cowshed locations I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, the Primrose Hill spa is a hygge haven. I popped myself downstairs to the treatment rooms and instantly felt the stresses of the day fall off my shoulders - what is it about spas having the ability to just make you feel more relaxed just by being there?

Before the treatment even begins, I’m already in a state of heaven thanks to the heated table I throw my stressed out and tired body onto. The 75 minutes of bliss begins with a body exfoliation, focusing on the legs, then arms, and finishing with the back, scrubbing away all the day’s woes. Skin is left buffed, refreshed and positively smooth, I guarantee you’ll want to show it off.

Next comes the massage, targeting the feet, back and neck. My therapist used just the right amount of pressure - the Goldilocks of pressure if you will - ensuring it’s not too hard to make it into a deep tissue, but not too little to just be one of those massages where you feel that all they did was rub a tonne of oil onto your skin. The relaxing blend of essential oils glide across the body - a heavenly thing to experience.

Was I relaxed at the end of my treatment? Like you wouldn’t believe. It was as though my nightmare of a day hadn’t even happened and all was good in the world once more. There may even have been a temporary drift into a snooze towards the end too… A treatment that really lives up to its name, you’d be mad not to book yourself in.' Follow Claire @clairemenary

  • Catwalk report: Mary Katrantzou Spring/Summer 18

In the lead up to the launch of our exclusive collaboration with Mary Katrantzou, Cowshed attended the designer’s Spring/Summer 2018 show at London Fashion Week this weekend.

Mary is known as ‘the Queen of Print’ (as you’ll see on the Cowshed products she designed for us) and as the models walked down the catwalk this was immediately apparent. Bright, bold floral designs in vibrant colours adorned dresses and were cleverly revealed to be ‘paint by numbers’ prints with some left blank and white, as if awaiting a hand holding a colouring pencil to fill them in.
